Lady Wolves Roll Past Lady Trojans

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team played host to Mississippi Delta on Saturday, January 29. The Lady Wolves dominated the Lady Trojans on the way to their second straight conference win by a final of 66-48.

The Lady Wolves started the game an 8-0 scoring run to take a lead by that margin with five minutes left in the quarter. The Lady Wolves closed out the quarter with a 10-5 scoring run to close out the first quarter with an 18-5 lead over the Lady Trojans.

Co-Lin remained in control of the game throughout the second quarter as they doubled their total score with 18 points and held the Lady Trojans to ten points. The Lady Wolves lead stood at 36-15 heading into the locker rooms at halftime.

The third quarter also had the Lady Wolves outscore the Lady Trojans 19-13 to increase their lead to 55-28. While the Lady Trojans outscored the Lady Wolves in the fourth quarter, 20-11, the Lady Wolves used a late run to seal the 66-48 victory.

Sophomore guard Aniya Sanders (Vicksburg) led all scorers with 17 points along with four rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Freshman guard Zykeria Anderson (Edwards) had her second consecutive game with a double-double scoring 14 points and grabbing ten rebounds. Anderson also led the Lady Wolves in steals and assists with five in each category.

Sophomore forward Christina James (Columbia) added eight points, while sophomore forward Jakiylah Esco had seven points with five rebounds. Sophomore forward Madelynn Webster (Pocahontas) and freshman guard Tandria Minor (Brandon) had six points apiece. Webster had five rebounds, two assists, and one block while Minor added two rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Sophomore guards Jakyra Young (Kosciusko) and Marvia Spann (Madison) had four points each to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves. Spann also added three rebounds and four assists, while Young had three rebounds, two assists, and one block.

Co-Lin improves to 10-7 overall and 4-4 in conference play. The Lady Wolves will return to action with a home contest against East Central on Monday, January 31. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m., at Mullen Gym.
