Lady Wolves Win Third Straight Conference Game

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team played host to East Central in conference action on Monday, January 31. The Lady Wolves dominated the Lady Warrors winning their third consecutive conference game by a final of 77-45.

The Lady Wolves and Lady Warriors used the opening minutes of the first quarter to trade baskets and leads but ultimately reaching a 9-9 tie with just under five minutes remaining. The Wolves then closed out the quarter on a 12-2 scoring run to take a 21-11 lead. The second quarter belonged to the Lady Wolves as they more than tripled the Lady Warriors point total in the quarter holding them to just five points while adding 18. The Lady Wolves took a 39-16 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.

The third quarter saw the Lady Wolves score their highest point total of the night as they added 26 points while holding the Lady Warriors to 18 points. The Lady Wolves lead stood at 65-34 at the end of the quarter. The Lady Wolves also outscored the Lady Warriors in the fourth quarter by a 12-11 margin to clinch the 77-45 win.

The Lady Wolves had four players score in double figures during the contest as sophomore guard Aniya Sanders (Vicksburg) led the way and all scorers with 18 points. Sanders also added in a team-leading eight rebounds with two assists and one steal. Freshman guard Zykeria Anderson (Edwards) nabbed her fifth consecutive double-digit scoring game as she added in 14 points with four rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Sophomore forward Madelynn Webster (Pocahontas) and freshman guard Tandria Minor (Brandon) had ten points each. Webster also had three rebounds, one steal, and one block while Minor had three rebounds and team-leading six assists.

Freshmen forwards Christina James (Columbia) and Kiersten Ball (Louisville) added six points apiece while sophomore guard Jakyra Young (Kosciusko) had five points. Sophomore guard Marvia Spann (Madison) and sophomore forward Jakiylah Esco (Ridgeland) added three points each and freshman guard Leilani Lewis (Baton Rouge, La.) had two points to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin improves to 11-7 overall and 5-4 in conference play. The Lady Wolves will return to action with a conference road game against Hinds on Thursday, February 3. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m., at J.D. Boyd Gym in Utica.
