Lady Wolves Falter Against Lady Eagles

MERIDIAN – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team took to the road to face off against Meridian on Thursday, February 10. The Lady Eagles beat the Lady Wolves, 54-49.

The Lady Eagles used the first quarter to jump out ahead of the Lady Wolves by a score of 17-13. However, the Lady Wolves battled back and cut the lead down to 25-23 as the Lady Eagles hit a buzzer beating shot to hold that advantage going into the locker rooms at halftime.

The Lady Wolves outscored the Lady Eagles in the third quarter, 14-12, to tie the game at 37-37 at the end of the quarter. The fourth quarter proved to be the difference in the game as the Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Wolves, 17-12, to earn the 54-59 win.

A pair of guards led the way for the Lady Wolves as sophomore Jakyra Young (Kosciusko) and freshman Zykeria Anderson (Edwards) had 10 points each. Young also had five rebounds with three assists and one steal while Anderson had four rebounds with one assist and one steal. Anderson has now hit double-digit scoring in eight straight games and nine of the last ten games played.

Freshman guard Tandria Minor (Brandon) had eight points with one rebound, two assists, and four steals while sophomore forward Madelynn Webster (Pocahontas) had six points with seven rebounds. Sophomore forward Jakiylah Esco (Ridgeland) had five points with a team-leading 15 rebounds while freshman guard Leilani Lewis (Baton Rouge, La.) had four points. Freshman forward Christina James (Columbia) and sophomore guard Aniya Sanders (Vicksburg) had three points each to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 14-7 overall and 7-5 in conference play. The Lady Wolves will return to action playing host to Gulf Coast on Monday, February 14. The game will be Sophomore Night for the Lady Wolves with tip-off set for 6 p.m.
