Lady Wolves Win Regular Season Finale

SENATOBIA – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team closed out the 2022 regular season with a road contest against Northwest on Thursday, Febraury 17. The Lady Wolves beat the Lady Rangers by a final of 63-61.

The Lady Wolves and Lady Rangers were tied at 16-16 after the first quarter of play. The Lady Rangers outscored the Lady Wolves, 8-4, in the second quarter and held a 24-20 going into the locker rooms at halftime.

The biggest quarter for the Lady Wolves came in the third as they pulled away from the Lady Rangers outscoring them, 28-17, and holding a 48-41 lead at the end of play. The Lady Rangers battled back and outscored the Lady Wolves, 20-15, in the fourth quarter but the Lady Wolves held on down the stretch and secured the 63-61 win.

Sophomore guard Aniya Sanders had her best night as a member of the Lady Wolves as she had a double-double of 23 points and 17 rebounds. The 23 points led all scorers and tied a career high, while the 17 rebounds are a new career high for Sanders who also had one assist and one steal. Freshman guard Zykeria Anderson (Edwards) added 13 rebounds with four rebounds and one steal. Anderson completes the regular season hitting double-digit scoring in 10 straight games and 11 of the last 12 played.

Sophomore forward Jakiylah Esco (Ridgeland) had 10 points with eight rebounds and one block while sophomore forward Madelynn Webster (Pocahontas) had seven points with eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Marvia Spann (Madison) and freshman guard Tandria Minor (Brandon) had four points each with Spann also collecting six rebounds with a team-leading six assists while Minor collected seven rebounds with four assists and a team-leading five steals. Sophomore guard Jakyra Young (Kosciusko) had two points with three rebounds and one assist to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin finishes the 2022 regular season 16-7 overall and 9-5 in conference play. The Lady Wolves will return to action playing in the MACCC State Championship which begins on Monday, February 21. The Lady Wolves will face off against Jones College at 1 p.m., in Poplarville.
