Lady Wolves Open Season with Win over Hinds

UTICA – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team opened the 2022-23 season with a road contest against Hinds. The Lady Wolves led wire-to-wire en route to a season opening 70-60 win over the Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Wolves used a big first quarter offensive explosion to take a 26-17 lead. The Lady Wolves then added 15 points in the second quarter while holding the Lady Bulldogs to 11 to grow their lead to 41-28 at halftime.

The third quarter saw the Lady Wolves outscore the Lady Bulldogs, 12-9, as the lead continued to grow to 53-37 at the end of the quarter. The fourth quarter saw the Lady Bulldogs have an offensive explosion of their own as they outscored the Lady Wolves, 23-17, but the Lady Wolves would not give up the lead as they secured the 70-60 win.

A pair of sophomore guards led the Lady Wolves offensively as Tandria Minor (Brandon) and Zykeria Anderson (Edwards) scored 14 points each while Minor added one rebound, three assists and one steal with Anderson adding two rebounds and one assist. Sophomore guard Ayanna McNairy (Brookhaven) had 13 points with eight rebounds and one assist. Sophomore forward Jamey McDaniel (Summit) came off the bench and led the team with ten rebounds paired with seven points.

Sophomore guard Leilani Lewis (Baton Rouge, LA) had eight points, freshman forward Ceara Myers (Baton Rouge, LA) had six points, sophomore forward Kiersten Ball (Louisville), while freshman guards Kaileigh Bilbo (Gulfport) and A'Shante Fleming (Canton) had three points and one point respectively to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin improves to 1-0 on the season and will return to action for their home opener against South Arkansas on Monday, November 7. The action between the Stars and the Lady Wolves tips off at 5:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
