Lady Wolves Split Pair of Games to Open Week

SUMMIT – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team took to the road for a pair of games facing off against LSU-Eunice on Monday, November 14 and then playing Southern University-Shreveport on Tuesday, November 15 on the campus of Southwest Mississippi Community College. The Lady Wolves beat the Lady Bengals, 71-59, and then fell to the Lady Jaguars, 68-64, taking their first loss of the season.

Game One vs LSU-E

The Lady Wolves outscored the Lady Bengals, 19-16, in the first quarter to hold that margin for the lead as the quarter ended. The Lady Wolves once again outscored the Lady Bengals by a three-point margin, 17-14, in the second quarter to hold a 36-30 lead as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Lady Wolves then came out in the third quarter and dominated the Lady Bengals outscoring them 24-15 and grew their lead to double digits at 60-45. The final quarter saw the Lady Bengals outscore the Lady Wolves by a three-point margin, 14-11, but the Lady Wolves big lead would not be overcome as they secure the 71-59 win.

The sophomore guard duo of Tandria Minor (Brandon) and Zykeria Anderson (Edwards) once again led the way for the Lady Wolves as Minor led the team in scoring with 21 point while Anderson had 12. Minor also nabbed seven rebounds and added three assists and two steals throughout the game while Anderson had four assists.

Freshman forward Ceara Myers (Baton Rouge, LA) had nine points while a trio of sophomores in guards Leilani Lewis (Baton Rouge, LA) and Ayanna McNairy (Brookhaven) along with forward Kiersten Ball (Louisville) had eight points each. McNairy led the Lady Wolves in rebounds with 14 while freshman guards A'shante Fleming (Canton) and Kayla Howard (Shaw) had three points and two points respectively to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Game Two vs Southern-Shreveport

The Lady Wolves used a big opening first quarter to take a 24-15 lead at the end of play. However, the Lady Jaguars responded by outscoring the Lady Wolves 16-9 in the second quarter and the cut the Lady Wolves lead down to 33-31 as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The two teams matched scoring in the third quarter both adding 11 points to their total as the Lady Wolves held on to their two-point lead at 44-42. The fourth quarter saw the Lady Jaguars outscore the Lady Wolves, 26-20, to seal the 68-64 win and hand the Lady Wolves their first loss of the season.

Tandria Minor and Zykeria Anderson once again led the way as Minor had her second straight 20+ point performance with exactly 20 points in the game while Anderson added 14 points. Minor also had five rebounds, one assist and two steals. Ayanna McNairy also hit double-digit scoring during the game as she scored 10 points to go along with six rebounds, one assist, and two steals.

Leilani Lewis had nine points, Ceara Myers had five points and led the Lady Wolves in rebounds with 11, while Kiersten Ball had four points, and Kyla Farmer (Conehatta) had two points to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves. Lewis and Ball also added eight rebounds each during the game.

Co-Lin is now 4-1 overall and will return to action at home on Thursday, November 17 hosting Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Tip-off between the Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Wolves is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
