Lady Wolves Edge Out Lady Bulldogs

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team played host to Mississippi Gulf Coast on Thursday, November 17. The Lady Wolves beat the Lady Bulldogs by a final of 61-54.

The teams traded baskets, leads, and ties in a low-scoring first quarter as the game was tied 6-6 with just under four and a half minutes of play remaining. The Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Wolves 5-4 over the final minutes to hold an 11-10 lead at the end of the quarter.

The second quarter belonged to the Lady Wolves as they more than doubled the Lady Bulldogs scoring output. The opening minutes of the quarter saw the Lady Wolves go on a 15-3 scoring run to take a 25-14 lead with just over six minutes left to play in the first half. The Lady Wolves closed out the quarter with an 8-7 scoring run to take 33-21 lead as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Lady Bulldogs then came out in the third quarter and outscored the Lady Wolves, 15-11, to close the gap and cut the Lady Wolves lead down to 44-36. The final quarter once again saw the Lady Bulldogs outscore the Lady Wolves, 18-17, but the Lady Wolves lead would not be erased as they secured the 61-54 victory.

Sophomore guards Tandria Minor (Brandon) and Zykeria Anderson (Edwards) once again led the way for the Lady Wolves with 16 and 13 points respectively. They also shared the team lead in assists with three each while Anderson led the team in steals with four and added five rebounds.

Sophomore guards Leilani Lewis (Baton Rouge, LA) and Ayanna McNairy (Brookhaven) along with freshman forward Ceara Myers (Baton Rouge, LA) had seven points each while Lewis led the team in rebounds with six. Sophomore forward Kiersten Ball and freshman guard A'Shante Fleming (Canton) had four points each while sophomore forward Jamey McDaniel (Summit) had three points to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin improves to 5-1 overall and returns to action with a road contest against Baton Rouge on Monday, November 21. Tip-off between the Lady Wolves and the Lady Bears is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., in Baton Rouge.
