Lady Wolves Earn Come From Behind Win Against Lady Jaguars

SHREVEPORT – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team returned to action on Monday, January 9, in a road contest against the only team to beat them this season, Southern University-Shreveport. A second half offensive explosion from the Lady Wolves led to a come-from-behind victory over the Lady Jaguars, 72-63.

The Lady Wolves sputtered out of the gates to start the game as they scored just nine points in the first quarter and trailed 12-9 at the end. The Lady Jaguars maintained their lead throughout the second quarter as the outscored the Lady Wolves, 15-14, and held a 27-23 lead as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The third quarter belonged to the Lady Wolves and was the critical turning point in the game as they came out and doubled up the Lady Jaguars outscoring them 27-13. The Lady Wolves used that quarter to turn around a four-point deficit to a 10-point lead, 50-40, at the end of the quarter. The Lady Jaguars then added 23 points in the fourth quarter but could not overcome the Lady Wolves as they scored 22 points to secure the 72-63 victory.

Sophomore guards Zykeria Anderson (Edwards) and Tandria Minor (Brandon) led the way for the Lady Wolves as they scored 23 and 20 points respectively. Anderson added six rebounds, one assist, and two steals on the night while Minor also had five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Freshman forward Ceara Myers (Baton Rouge, La.) provided a big boost with her second double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Sophomore forward Jamey McDaniel (Summit) had five points, sophomore guard Ayanna McNairy (Brookhaven) had four points, while freshman guards A'Shante Fleming (Canton) and Kayla Howard (Shaw) had two points each to round out the scoring.

Co-Lin improves to 11-1 with head coach Gwyn Young collecting career win number 999. The Lady Wolves return to MACCC play on Thursday, January 12 with a game against East Mississippi as Gwyn Young looks to collect career win number 1000. Tip-off between the Lady Lions and the Lady Wolves is set for 6:00 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
