Lady Wolves Drop Close Contest to Lady Bulldogs

GOODMAN – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team returned to conference action with a road contest against Holmes on Tuesday, January 17. The Lady Bulldogs beat the Lady Wolves by a final of 78-75.

The first quarter belonged to the Lady Wolves as they jumped out to a three-point, 24-21 lead over the Lady Bulldogs at the end of quarter. The second quarter saw the Lady Bulldogs outscore the Lady Wolves by one point, 16-15, but the Lady Wolves held a 39-37 advantage as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The turning point of the game was the third quarter as the Lady Bulldogs nearly doubled up the Lady Wolves outscoring them 19-10 to take a 56-49 lead heading into the final quarter. The Lady Wolves outscored the Lady Bulldogs, 26-22, in the fourth quarter but could not overcome the Lady Bulldogs as they held on for the 78-75 win.

Freshman forward A'Shante Fleming (Canton) led the Lady Wolves with 17 points, six rebounds and two assists while sophomore guard Leilani Lewis (Baton Rouge, La.) had 13 points with six rebounds and two assists and sophomore forward Jamey McDaniel (Summit) had 10 points with four rebounds.

Sophomore guards Ayanna McNairy (Brookhaven) and Zykeria Anderson (Edwards) scored nine points each while McNairy led the team in rebounds with eight for Anderson this was the first game of the season where she did not score at least 12 points. Freshman guard Kayla Howard (Shaw) and freshman forward Kyla Farmer (Conehatta) had six points each while freshman forward Ceara Myers (Baton Rouge, La.) had five points to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 12-2 overall, 2-1 in conference play, and will return to action hosting Jones in conference action on Thursday, January 19. Tip-off between the Lady Bobcats and Lady Wolves is set for 6:00 p.m., at Mullen Gym, in Wesson.
