Lady Wolves Run Away From Lady Warriors

DECATUR – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team returned to action on the road against MACCC foe East Central on Monday, February 6. The Lady Wolves lead wire-to-wire on their way to a 61-51 win over the Lady Warriors.

The Lady Wolves opened the first quarter with a quick 7-0 scoring run to hold a lead by that margin with 8:20 left to play. The Lady Wolves increased their lead to 11-3 with just under six minutes to play. However, the Lady Warriors responded with a 9-3 scoring run to close out the quarter and cut the Lady Wolves lead down to 14-12.

Both teams matched scoring numbers in the second quarter adding nine points each as the Lady Wolves continued to hold the lead, 23-21, when the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The third quarter was the difference maker in the game as the Lady Wolves nearly doubled up the Lady Warriors outscoring them 25-13 starting with an 11-1 scoring run over the opening minutes to push the lead to 34-22 with 7:27 left. The Lady Wolves then used a 9-6 scoring run to grow the lead to the largest margin at 43-28 with just under three minutes to play. The Lady Warriors outscored the Lady Wolves, 6-5, to close out the quarter but the Lady Wolves held a 48-34 lead heading into the final quarter.

The Lady Warriors outscored the Lady Wolves, 17-13, in the final quarter but it would not be enough for the Lady Warriors as the Lady Wolves held on and secured the 61-51 win on the road.

The Lady Wolves had two players with double-double performances during the game as sophomore guards Zykeria Anderson (Edwards) and Ayanna McNairy (Brookhaven) had 10 rebounds each while Anderson led the Lady Wolves in scoring with 17 points and McNairy added 12 points. Anderson and McNairy also had two assists and two steals each during the game. Sophomore guard Tandria Minor narrowly missed a double-double as she had 13 points and a team-leading seven assists along with four rebounds.

Freshman guard A'Shante Fleming and sophomore forward Jamey McDaniel (Summit) had six points each, freshman forward Ceara Myers (Baton Rouge, La.) had four points, sophomore guard Leilani Lewis (Baton Rouge, La.) had two points, and freshman forward Kyla Farmer (Conehatta) had one point to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin improves 15-5 overall, 4-4 in conference play, while the win gives head coach Gwyn Young career win number 1003. The Lady Wolves will return to action hosting the Lady Bulldogs of Hinds with the action set to tip-off at 6 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
