Lady Wolves Roll Past Lady Bulldogs for Third Straight Win

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team returned to MACCC action hosting Hinds on Thursday, February 9. The Lady Wolves lead wire-to-wire on their way to 72-49 win over the Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Wolves used a 12-10 scoring run over the opening minutes of the first quarter to hold a lead at that margin with five minutes of play remaining. The Wolves then used a 12-3 scoring run to close out the quarter and extend their lead to 24-13. The Wolves opened the second quarter with 14-2 scoring run to grow their lead to 38-15 with 5:40 left in the first half. The Lady Wolves closed out the second quarter with a 9-6 scoring run to take a 47-21 lead as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Lady Wolves and Lady Bulldogs matched scoring outputs in the opening minutes of the third quarter as the Lady Wolves lead stood at 52-26 with 4:16 left on the clock. The Lady Bulldogs closed out the third quarter with a 13-4 scoring run to cut the Lady Wolves lead down to 56-39. The Lady Wolves outscored the Lady Bulldogs 16-10 in the final quarter of play to secure the 72-49 win.

Sophomore guard Zykeria Anderson (Edwards) led the way for the Lady Wolves as she led all scorers with 19 points paired with three rebounds, three assists, and a team-leading four steals. Sophomore guard Tandria Minor (Brandon) and freshman forward Ceara Myers (Baton Rouge, La.) had 13 points apiece while Minor had six rebounds, a team-leading six assists, and two steals with Myers leading the Lady Wolves in rebounds with eight along with two assists and two steals.

Sophomore forward Kiersten Ball (Louisville) had eight points, sophomore guard Ayanna McNairy (Brookhaven) had seven points, sophomore forward Jamey McDaniel (Summit) had six points, freshman guard A'Shante Fleming (Canton) had four points, and sophomore guard Leilani Lewis (Baton Rouge, La.) had two points to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin improves to 16-5 overall, 6-4 in conference play, while head coach Gwyn Young picks up career win number 1004. The Lady Wolves will return to action with a road contest against the Lady Indians of Itawamba with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m., on Monday, February 13 at the Davis Events Center in Fulton.
