Lady Wolves Drop Regular Season Finale

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team celebrated Sophomore Night with their home regular season finale against Northwest Mississippi on Thursday, February 23. The Lady Wolves had a furious comeback late in the game fall short as the Lady Rangers got the win, 87-79.

The Lady Rangers opened the game on a 12-9 scoring run to hold the lead by that margin with 4:39 left in the first quarter. The Lady Wolves then went on a quick 5-0 scoring run to take a 14-12 lead with 3:27 remaining. The Lady Rangers then responded with an 11-2 scoring run to close out the quarter and hold a 23-16 lead over the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Rangers continued to grow their lead with a 10-7 scoring run to open the second quarter as the Lady Wolves now trailed, 33-23, with 4:58 left in the first half. The Lady Wolves responded with a 12-9 scoring to cut down the lead to 42-35 with 2:01 remaining. The Lady Rangers held that 42-35 lead to close out the quarter as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The third quarter started with the Lady Wolves opening on a 7-5 scoring run to cut the Lady Rangers lead down to 47-42 with 6:24 left to play. The Lady Rangers responded with a 12-4 scoring run to extend the lead to 59-46 with 3:01 remaining in the quarter. The two teams then matched scoring outputs with seven points each to close out the quarter as the Lady Rangers held a 66-53 lead.

The Lady Wolves started the fourth quarter with a 9-6 scoring run to cut the Lady Rangers lead down to 72-62 with 5:29 left to play. The Lady Rangers then responded with a 9-3 scoring run to extend their lead to 81-65 with 3:36 remaining. The Lady Wolves then went on a 14-1 scoring run to cut the lead down to 82-79 with 1:03 left in the game. However, the Lady Rangers scored five unanswered points to secure the 87-79 win over the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves were led by sophomore guard Leilani Lewis (Baton Rouge, LA) who led all scorers with 16 points along with four rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Sophomore guard Zykeria Anderson (Edwards) had 14 points and tied for the team lead in rebounds and assist with six and five respectively while sophomore guards Tandria Minor (Brandon) and Ayanna McNairy (Brookhaven) had 12 points each. Minor added five rebounds and the shared team lead in assists with five while McNairy had two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Freshman guard A'Shante Fleming (Canton) had 10 points with one rebound and one steal.

Sophomore forward Kiersten Ball (Louisville) had eight points and shared the team lead in rebounds with six along with two assists and one block. Freshman forward Ceara Myers (Baton Rouge, LA) had five points and sophomore forward Jamey McDaniel (Summit) had two points to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin finishes the 2022-23 regular season 16-9 overall, 6-8 in conference play. The Lady Wolves have qualified for the Region 23 Women's Basketball Tournament as the 10 seed and will travel to their rival, Southwest Mississippi, to face off against the Lady Bears in the first round of the tournament on Monday, February 27. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
