Lady Wolves Season Ends in First Round of Region 23 Tournament

SUMMIT – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team returned to action in the First Round of the Region 23 Women's Basketball Tournament on the road against Southwest Mississippi on Monday, February 27. The Lady Bears stifled the Lady Wolves offense and won the game, 73-48.

The Lady Bears came out strong early in the first quarter of the game as they opened with a 9-3 scoring run to hold a lead by that margin with 6:13 left to play. However, the Lady Wolves responded with a 9-5 scoring run including a buzzer beating three-pointer by freshman guard A'shante Fleming (Canton) to cut the Lady Bears lead down to 14-12.

The second quarter ultimately proved to be the biggest difference in the game as the Lady Bears held the Lady Wolves scoreless and added 16 points to their total to hold a 30-12 lead as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Lady Bears came out in the third quarter and continued to flex their muscles as they nearly doubled scoring of the Lady Wolves in the quarter, 29-16. The lead stood at 59-28 at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter saw the Lady Wolves outscore the Lady Bears, 20-14, but the large deficit could not be overcome as the Lady Bears secured the 73-48 win.

Sophomore guard Leilani Lewis (Baton Rouge, LA) led the Lady Wolves with 12 points along with five rebounds. Freshman guards Lashaunte Payne (Magee), A'Shante Fleming (Canton), and Kaleigh Bilbo (Gulfport) had seven, six, and five points respectively while sophomore guards Tandria Minor (Brandon) and Ayanna McNairy (Brookhaven) had four points each.

Sophomore guard Zykeria Anderson (Edwards) and freshman guard Kayla Howard (Shaw) had three points each while freshman forwards Ceara Myers (Baton Rouge, LA) and Kyla Farmer (Conehatta) had two points each to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin finishes the 2022-23 season with an overall record of 16-10.
