Lady Wolves Blow Past Lady Jaguars

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team returned to action hosting Southern University-Shreveport on Friday, December 1. The Lady Wolves won every quarter en route to a 78-67 victory over the Lady Jaguars.

"Early in the game, we turned the ball over a lot which led to many transition opportunities for Southern-Shreveport," stated Co-Lin head coach Dr. Britta Stephens. "We did a much better job of taking care of the ball in the second half."

The Lady Wolves outscored the Lady Jaguars, 14-13, to hold the lead at that margin at the end of play in the first quarter. The Lady Wolves outscored the Lady Jaguars in the second quarter, 21-20, to increase their lead to 35-33 at halftime.

The Lady Wolves carried the momentum over into the second half as they saved their best scoring output for the third quarter outscoring the Lady Jaguars, 23-18. The Lady Wolves increased their lead to 58-51 at the end of the quarter. The final quarter belonged to the Lady Wolves as they added 20 points while holding the Lady Jaguars to 16 to secure the 78-67 victory.

A'Shante Fleming (Canton) led the Lady Wolves with 16 points along with four rebounds and three assists while Kiersten Haynes (Clinton) and Sequioa Bolden (Hattiesburg) added 12 points each with Haynes adding five rebounds and two assists while Bolden had four rebounds and three assists. Alexanjria Washington (Canton) had ten points with two rebounds.

"Alex Washington was a huge spark off the bench for us," added Stephens. "We had several of our post players get in foul trouble early in the game and she came in and did an outstanding job on both ends of the court for us."

Jamea Smith (Jackson) had eight points with five rebounds, one assist, and one steal while Zamiya Brown (Flowood) had seven points and three rebounds. Myla Harbor (Farriday, LA) had six points with four rebounds, three assist, and one block. Lashaunte Payne (Magee), Ke'Asia McChriston (Jackson), and Tia Richardson (Jackson) had two points while Kayla Howard (Shaw) had one point to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

"Having nearly everyone on the team score for us during the game shows how much of a total team effort this win was," said Stephens.

Co-Lin improves to 6-2 overall and returns to action hosting Holmes on Monday, December 4. Tip-off between the Lady Wolves and Lady Bulldogs is set for 5:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
