Lady Wolves Falter Against Lady Bulldogs

GOODMAN – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team returned to conference play with a road contest against Holmes on Monday, February 5. The Lady Bulldogs beat the Lady Wolves, 73-60.

"Our team showed relentless fight for four quarters tonight," stated Co-Lin head coach Dr. Britta Stephens. "Holmes shot the ball extremely well in the first quarter and jumped out to a big lead, but our players clawed their way back out of that big deficit."

The Lady Bulldogs jumped ahead of the Lady Wolves early in the game outscoring them 26-10 in the first quarter to hold a lead by that margin at the end of play. However, the Lady Wolves would fight their way back into the game outscoring the Lady Bulldogs, 20-15, in the second quarter. The Lady Bulldogs held a 41-30 lead over the Lady Wolves as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Lady Wolves continued to show grit, determination, and resilience as they outscored the Lady Bulldogs, 17-16, in the third quarter cutting the lead down to 57-47. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Wolves cut the lead down to single digits, but the Lady Bulldogs responded with a late run to seal the 73-60 win.

"Even though we lost the game, I have never been more proud of a team's relentless play and togetherness," added Stephens. "They played for each other even when things weren't going in our favor, and every player contributed tonight."

A'Shante Fleming (Canton) led the Lady Wolves with 18 points paired with three rebounds, one steal, and a team-leading six assists. Ceara Myers (Baton Rouge) had eight points with four rebounds, one steal, and two blocks while Kiersten Haynes (Clinton) had seven points with three assists and one steal.

Lashaunte Payne (Magee), Jamea Smith (Jackson), and Sequoia Bouldin (Hattiesburg) had six points apiece while Bolden led the team with three steals. Myla Harbor (Ferriday, LA) had four points, Tia Richardson (Jackson) and Ke'Asia McChriston (Jackson) had two points each while Alexanjria Washington (Canton) had one point to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

"Freshman KeKe McChriston stepped up and played some huge minutes for our team in this game," stated Stephens. "Sequoia Bouldin was outstanding defensively. We asked her to guard Holmes best shooter, and she limited to her to three points in the second half."

Co-Lin falls to 9-8 overall, 1-4 in conference play, and will return to action hosting Jones on Thursday, February 8. Tip-off between the Lady Bobcats and Lady Wolves is set for 5:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
