Lady Wolves Drop Road Game to Lady Wildcats

POPLARVILLE – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team resumed MACCC action with a road contest against No. 11 Pearl River on Tuesday, February 20. The Lady Wildcats beat the Lady Wolves, 75-41.

"Pearl River is a very good team, and I was very proud of our effort against them in this game," stated Co-Lin head coach Dr. Britta Stephens. "I thought we did a good job of guarding and holding them to 75 points. In the first half, we turned the ball over against their press too much, which gave them some easy transition opportunities."

Both teams struggled to find their offense in the opening minutes of the first quarter as the Lady Wildcats held a 3-2 lead with 6:33 left on the clock. The Lady Wildcats then went on a 16-2 scoring run to hold a 19-4 lead with 3:47 remaining. The final minutes of the quarter ended with both teams adding two points each to their totals as the Lady Wildcats held a 21-6 at the end of play.

The Lady Wildcats carried the momentum over to the second quarter as they opened with 15-4 scoring run to push their lead to 36-10 with 7:05 left to play. However, the Wolves responded with an 8-5 scoring run for the remainder of the quarter, but the Lady Wildcats held the lead at 41-18 as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Lady Wildcats then added 17 points in each of the third and fourth quarters while holding the Lady Wolves to 11 and 12 points in the respective quarters to seal the win.

Angel Wilkinson (Brookhaven) led the Lady Wolves with seven points while A'Shante Fleming and Alexanjria Washington (both from Canton) had six points each. Lashaunte Payne (Magee) added five points on the night.

Jamea Smith (Jackson) and Myla Harbor (Farriday, LA) had four points apiece while Kiersten Haynes (Clinton) had three points. Kayla Howard (Shaw), Ceara Myers (Baton Rouge), and Tia Richardson (Jackson) had two points each to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 11-10 overall, 3-6 in conference play, and will return to action hosting Coahoma on Thursday, February 22. Tip-off between the Lady Tigers and the Lady Wolves is set for 5:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
