Lady Wolves Drop Game to Lady Warriors

DECATUR – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team returned to action with a road game against East Central on Monday, February 26. The Lady Warriors beat the Lady Wolves, 72-65.

"We did not do a very good job defensively in this game," stated Co-Lin head coach Dr. Britta Stephens. "We committed far too many fouls by not keeping the ball in front of us. Additionally, our 19 turnovers led to numerous transition opportunities for East Central who also outrebounded us which had a tremendous impact on the game."

The Lady Wolves used an 11-6 scoring run over the opening minutes of the first quarter to hold a lead by that margin with 5:19 left to play. The Lady Warriors responded with a 10-2 scoring run to take a 16-13 lead over the Lady Wolves with 2:22 remaining. The Lady Warriors closed out the quarter with a 6-3 scoring run to hold a 22-16 lead over the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves opened the second quarter with a 6-3 scoring run to cut the Lady Warriors lead down to 25-22 with 6:33 on the clock. The Lady Warriors responded 6-4 run to push their lead to 31-26 with 1:52 left to play. The Lady Wolves closed out the quarter with a 4-3 scoring run to cut the Lady Warriors lead down to 34-30 as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Lady Wolves opened the third quarter with a 6-2 scoring run to tie the game at 36-36 with 7:17 remaining. The Lady Wolves then used another 6-2 run to take a 42-38 lead over the Lady Warriors 4:05 left to play. The Lady Warriors then used a 13-6 scoring run to end the third quarter with a 51-48 lead.

In the final quarter of play, the Lady Warriors outscored the Lady Wolves, 21-17, to secure the 72-65 win.

A'Shante Fleming (Canton) led the Lady Wolves offense with 17 points, seven assists, five rebounds, and three steals while Ceara Myers (Baton Rouge) narrowly missed a double-double performance with 13 points and nine rebounds along with four steals.

"Ceara Myers was impact player for us offensively, especially in the second half," added Stephens.

Lashaunte Payne (Magee), Angel Wilkinson (Brookhaven), and Alexanjria Washington (Canton) had nine points each while Myla Harbor (Farriday, LA) had six points and Kayla Howard (Shaw) had two points to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 12-11 overall, 4-7 in conference play, and will return to action hosting Hinds on Thursday, February 29. Tip-off between the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Wolves is set for 5:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
