Lady Wolves Rout Lady Bulldogs

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team returned to conference play hosting Hinds on Thursday, February 29. The Lady Wolves earned their largest margin of victory by beating the Lady Bulldogs, 78-48.

"I am very proud of the statement win by our team," stated Co-Lin head coach Dr. Britta Stephens. "Every player on our roster scored tonight, which made for a very fun game."

The Lady Wolves got off to a fast start as A'Shante Fleming (Canton) scored an easy layup after the opening tip to take an early 2-0 lead. Despite the Lady Bulldogs tying the game twice in the opening minutes including 12-12 at the 5:02 mark in the first quarter, the Lady Wolves never trailed in the game. At the end of play in the first quarter, the Lady Wolves held a 20-14 lead outscoring the Lady Wolves, 8-2, to close out the quarter.

The Lady Wolves carried that momentum forward to the second quarter and held the Lady Bulldogs at bay with the score sitting at 31-19 with 4:54 left to play. The Lady Wolves closed out the first half with a 12-11 scoring run to hold a 43-30 lead as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The second half belonged to the Lady Wolves as they outscored the Lady Bulldogs by a combined 35-18 in the third and fourth quarters, 21-10 and 14-8, respectively to earn the 78-48 victory.

Angel Wilkinson (Brookhaven) led all scorers with 24 points with three rebounds while Lashaunte Payne (Magee) had 12 points with six rebounds and Ceara Myers had 10 points with six rebounds, one assist, and one steal.

Jamea Smith (Jackson) had seven points while A'shante Fleming and Kiersten Haynes (Clinton) had five points apiece with Sequoia Bouldin (Hattiesburg), Ke'Asia McChriston (Jackson), and Alexanjria Washington (Canton) adding three points each. Kayla Howard (Shaw), Myla Harbor (Farriday, LA), and Tia Richardson (Jackson) had two points each to round out the scoring while had a game-leading and new career high 13 rebounds.

"Cookie Wilkinson shined tonight offensively, and Myla Harbor came up huge for us with her 13 rebounds," added Stephens. "The two things that I am most proud of are the 51 rebounds we grabbed and the 20 assist we dished out in this win."

Co-Lin is now 13-11 overall, 5-7 in conference play, and will hit the road for the final time in the regular season on Monday, March 4, to face off against Itawamba. Tip-off between the Lady Wolves and the Lady Indians is set for 5:30 p.m., at the Davis Events Center in Fulton.
