Lady Wolves Drop Game Against Lady Trojans

MOORHEAD – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves hit the road for a game against Mississippi Delta on Tuesday, November 5. The Lady Trojans beat the Lady Wolves, 62-49.

"Turnovers were a huge problem for us in tonight's game," stated Co-Lin head coach Dr. Britta Stephens. "We only scored 19 points in the first half which was the result of turning the ball over so much."

The Lady Trojans outscored the Lady Wolves, 13-5, in the first quarter to hold a lead by that margin at the end of play. The Lady Wolves then kept pace with the Lady Trojans in the second half; however, the Lady Trojans outscored the Lady Wolves, 16-14, to hold a 29-19 lead as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The third quarter once again saw the Lady Wolves keeping the Lady Trojans close but ultimately being outscored, 20-17. The Lady Trojans lead stood at 49-36 at the end of play. The fourth quarter saw the teams match scoring outputs with 13 points each as the Lady Trojans held on to secure the win.

"Defensively we did a decent job holding Delta to only 62 points. In the second half, our pressure created turnovers by Delta which allowed us to cut the lead down to seven points on several occasions," added Stephens. "As was the case in the first part of the game though, our turnover late in the game led to easy transition baskets and fouls defensively which proved to be costly."

Angel Wilkinson (Brookhaven) led the Lady Wolves offensively with 18 points along with seven rebounds, three steals, and two assists while Kylinn Bell (Choctaw) had nine points with two rebounds and one assist. Kiersten Haynes (Clinton) had five points and five rebound with Kamaiyah Pruitt (Pass Christian) and Jamyria Robinson (St. Martin) adding four points each while Robinson added eight rebounds to her performance. Maddison Mitchell (Baton Rouge, LA) and Amari Barnes (Tylertown) had three points each, Tyra Johnson (Morton) had two points, and Kaylee Johnson (Booneville) had one point to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves. Tyra Johnson led the team in rebounds with 11.

"Kylinn Bell played very well for us tonight. She not only handled the ball well, but she was able to get to the basket and score," stated Stephens. "Moving forward, we have to mature and learn to value each possession."

Co-Lin is now 1-2 overall and will return to action with their home opener hosting South Arkansas on Thursday, November 5. Tip-off between the Lady Stars and the Lady Wolves is set for 5:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
