Lady Wolves Upend Lady Trojans

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team resumed conference play by hosting Mississippi Delta on Monday, February 3. The Lady Wolves used a come-from-behind effort to hand the Lady Trojans just their third loss of the season with a 63-55 win.

"Very proud of our team and how they were able to pull out a gritty win against a very good Mississippi Delta team," stated Co-Lin head coach Dr. Britta Stephens. "We put together a a full 40 minute performance and continued to battle through all of the highs and lows throughout the game."

Both teams came out shooting well as they matched scoring outputs with six points each and the score was tied, 6-6, with 7:08 left to play in the first quarter. The Lady Wolves then went on 6-2 scoring run to take a 12-8 lead over the Lady Trojans with 3:22 remaining. The Lady Trojans then closed out the quarter with a 5-3 scoring run to cut the lead down to 15-13 at the end of play.

The Lady Wolves continued to hold off the Lady Trojans in the opening minutes of the second quarter as they went on a 5-3 scoring run to push their lead to 20-16 with 6:14 left on the clock. However, the Lady Trojans responded with a 9-5 to tie the game at 25-25 with 2:23 remaining in the quarter. The Lady Trojans then closed out the quarter with a 9-1 scoring run to take a 34-26 lead over the Lady Wolves as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Lady Wolves came out red hot to start the third quarter and scored six unanswered points to cut the Lady Trojans lead down to 34-32 with 8:36 left to play. The Lady Trojans responded with six unanswered points of their own to push the lead to 40-32 with 4:22 remaining. However, the Lady Wolves responded with a 6-4 scoring run to cut the lead down to 44-38 heading to the final quarter of play.

The Lady Wolves opened the fourth quarter with a 7-2 scoring run to cut the Lady Trojans lead down to 46-45 with 7:30 left on the clock. The Lady Wolves then went on a 10-8 scoring run to take a 55-54 lead over the Lady Trojans with 4:13 left to play. The Lady Wolves then closed out the game with 8-1 scoring run to secure the 63-55 victory.

"Everyone who hit the floor tonight contribute to this win," added Stephens. "Maddison Mitchell and Jay Robinson's stat line may not be impressive, but their impact on this win was immeasurable."

Angel Wilkinson led the way for the Lady Wolves with a game-leading 34 points along with five rebounds, five steals, and two assists while Eymani Key (Baton Rouge, LA) provided a big spark off the bench with 13 points, five rebounds, two assists, and one steal.

"Cookie Wilkinson was once again outstanding for us offensively," stated Stephens. "Eymani Key was a huge spark for us and Kam Pruitt was also very good with her near double-double performance."

Kamaiyah Pruitt (Pass Christian) narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds while Kylinn Bell (Choctaw) had five points and Jamyria Robinson (St. Martin) had two points to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 12-9 overall, 2-4 in conference play, and will return on the road against Northeast Mississippi on Thursday, February 6. Tip-off between the Lady Wolves and the Lady Tigers is set for 5:30 p.m., at Bonner Arnold Coliseum in Booneville.
