Lady Wolves Get First Win in South Division Opener

SUMMIT- The Co-Lin Women's Soccer team continued their season opening road trip with a contest against rival and South Division foe Southwest Mississippi Community College. The Lady Wolves earned a hard-fought victory over the Lady Bears, 2-1, in overtime to earn their first win of the season and open South Division play with a win.

The game was scoreless after the first half and remained that way until midway through the second half when sophomore forward Taylor Ford (Florence) found the back of the net in the 64th minute with an assist from freshman forward Alana Dear (Madison) giving the Lady Wolves a 1-o lead.

The Lady Bears wasted little time with a response as Alexandra Shimasaki scored in the 66th minute to tie the game at one apiece. The game ended in regulation tied, 1-1, forcing overtime.

In the overtime period, the Lady Bears had early goal-scoring opportunities; however, the Lady Wolves would earn the victory with a game-winning golden goal from Alana Dear in the 97th minute with an assist from sophomore midfielder Anacia Leyland (St. Helens, England).

Starting goalkeeper Aleandra Moon (Poynton with Worth, England) saved 15 of 16 shots on goal throughout the match for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin improves to 1-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the South Division and will continue South Division play with a road contest against Meridian Community College. The action on the pitch is set to kickoff at 5 p.m.
