Lady Wolves Shutout Lady Indians for Second Conference Win

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Soccer team played host to Itawamba on Friday, September 23. The Lady Wolves got a clean sheet and shutout the Lady Indians earning a 1-0 for their second win in conference play.

"We have been great moving the ball forward the year, but in this game our girls were excellent defensively," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave.

Neither team scored in the first half as both team's goalkeepers saved every shot on goal faced from the opposition leading to the first half ending with the score 0-0.

The Lady Wolves broke the scoreless game in the 66th minute as freshman forward Charlie Cooper (Corby, England) beat the Lady Indians keeper with an assist from a throw in by sophomore defender Riely Laird (Clinton). The Lady Wolves then held strong for the final 24 minutes of the game to close out and seal the 1-0 victory.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Moon (Poynton with Worth, England) saved all 11 shots faced on goal throughout the match setting a season high for saves.

"Keeping a clean sheet against a tough Itawamba team shows the quality players we have on both sides of the ball," added Cosgrave. "It wasn't the prettiest in possession, but we found a way to win with a different approach. The girls are getting better and better every game we play and that is great to see."

Co-Lin improves to 7-0-1 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play and will return to action on the road facing off against Southwest on Tuesday, September 27. The action on the pitch between the Lady Wolves and the Lady Indians kicks off at 5 p.m., in Summit.
