Lady Wolves Earn Fourth Straight Win in Conference Play

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Soccer team hosted Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Friday, September 30. The Lady Wolves earned their second straight clean sheet and fourth straight conference win beating the Lady Bulldogs, 2-0.

The two teams were headed to a scoreless first half of play as neither could take advantage of their scoring opportunities. However, the Lady Wolves broke the scoreless tie as sophomore midfielder Annellise Bell (Byram) beat the Lady Bulldogs keeper with an assist from freshman forward Charlie Cooper (Corby, England) to give the Lady Wolves a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute. That lead held for the last five minutes of the first half for the Lady Wolves as the horn sounded for halftime.

The second goal for the Lady Wolves came early in the second half as sophomore midfielder Sarah Nalley (Brandon) found the back of the net in the 47th minute as Cooper earned her second assist of the match on the goal to increase the lead to 2-0. The Lady Wolves then stalled out the Lady Bulldogs attack for the remainder of the match allowing just two shots on goal to seal the 2-0 shutout victory.

"The girls were excellent during this match," said Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "We fixed a few things tactically at halftime and the girls executed the game plan and got the win."

Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Moon (Poynton with Worth, England) saved all five shots on goal she faced in the match en route to her second straight clean sheet of the week.

"Another clean sheet in conference play shows how tough we are for our opponents to break down," added Cosgrave.

Co-Lin improves to 9-0-1 overall and 4-0-0 in conference play and will return to action on the road against Holmes on Tuesday, October 4. The action on the pitch between the Lady Wolves and the Lady Bulldogs kicks off at 1 p.m., at Holmes' Ridgeland campus.
