Lady Wolves beat Lady Warriors in Overtime Thriller

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's soccer team returned to action hosting East Central on Friday, October 7. The Lady Wolves beat the Lady Warriors, 2-1, in overtime.

"The girls worked hard for this win," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "East Central is a  tough and physical opponent that were difficult for us to breakdown."

The Lady Wolves got on the board first as sophomore forward Taylor Ford (Florence) beat the Lady Warriors keeper with an assist from sophomore midfielder Anacia Leyland (St. Helens, England) to take a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute. The lead would hold for the Lady Wolves as the horn sounded for halftime.

The Lady Wolves kept the Lady Warriors from scoring throughout most of the second half until the Lady Warriors tied the game with their lone goal in the 83rd minute. The Lady Wolves then had just one shot in the final minutes of regulation as the score remained tied at 1-1 sending the game into overtime.

The winning goal for the Lady Wolves came early in the first overtime period as freshman forward Charlie Cooper blasted the ball from deep beating the Lady Warriors keeper to win the game, 2-1, in the 92nd minute.

"We weren't clinical enough in the first half, but we challenged the girls to step up and find a way to score the winning goal," added Cosgrave. "Charlie's strike to win it was excellent and I am so proud of our team for finding ways to win even in difficult situations like this one."

Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Moon (Poynton with Worth, England) saved four of five shots on goal faced throughout the match.

Co-Lin improves to 10-1-1 overall, 5-1 in conference play and will return to action on the road against No. 8 Northwest on Friday, October 14. The action on the pitch between the Lady Wolves and the Lady Rangers will kickoff at 1:00 p.m., in Senatobia.
