Lady Wolves Play to A Draw Against Lady Bobcats

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Soccer team played their home regular season finale against Jones on Tuesday, October 18. The Lady Bobcats and Lady Wolves played 110 minutes on the pitch with the match ending in a 1-1 draw.

"The girls were tremendous tonight," said Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "They battled from start to finish and were unlucky not to come away with the win."

The two teams looked to be headed to a scoreless first half as neither team could find the back of the net for the first 38 minutes of the match. However, the Lady Wolves scored their goal of the match as sophomore midfielder Anacia Leyland (St. Helens, England) ripped a free kick to the top right corner past the Lady Bobcats keeper to give the Lady Wolves a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute. The lead would hold for the Lady Wolves as the horn sounded for halftime.

The lead held for the Lady Wolves until the 60th minute when the Lady Bobcats converted a penalty kick for the tying goal making the score 1-1. The remainder of the second half featured strong defensive and goalkeeper play to keep the score tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation.

The teams then played two 10-minute overtime periods with neither side scoring a winning goal bringing the match to a 1-1 draw

"We caused Jones problems from the very first whistle and I thought that we were the better team for majority of the game," added Cosgrave. "I am so proud of every single one of our girls for the way that they played this match."

Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Moon (Poynton with Worth, England) saved 12 of 13 shots on goal faced throughout the match and played all 110 minutes for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 10-2-2 overall, 5-2-1 in conference play, and will return to action on the road against Pearl River on Friday, October 21. The action on the pitch between the Lady Wildcats and the Lady Wolves will kickoff at 5 p.m., at PRCC Soccer Complex in Poplarville.
