Lady Wolves Start Season with Shutout

MEMPHIS – The Co-Lin Women's Soccer team took to the road to face off against Southwest Tennessee on Thursday, August 24. The Lady Wolves earned a clean sheet in their 4-0 win over the Saluqis.

The Lady Wolves earned two back-to-back goals to quickly jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as Charlie Cooper (Corby, England) found the back of the net with an assist from Avery Rankin (Brandon) in the ninth minute. Four minutes later, Rankin looked to have her first goal of the season, but the Saluqis keeper saved the shot as the rebound found the feet of Cooper who blasted the ball to the net for her second goal of the game. The 2-0 lead stood as the game reached halftime.

The Lady Wolves used a set piece early in the second half for their third goal of the season as Chloe Nash (Byram) chipped in a ball off a corner kick from Emmi Cook (Chesterfield, England) in the 56th minute. The final goal for the Lady Wolves came in the 83rd minute as Brooklyn Cupit (Meadville) found the back of the net for her first goal of the season to increase the lead to 4-0.

Lara Dorfel (Munich, Germany) saved the only shot she faced during the match in 88 minutes of play while Maelee Thibodeaux (Brookhaven) finished off the match for the clean sheet.

"It was a great start to the season. We came out in the first fifteen minutes with high intensity and tempo which led to the two early goals and set the tone for the rest of the game," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "To keep a clean sheet to start the season is a massive bonus for us as well. Now it's time to recover and prepare for tomorrow's game."

Co-Lin is now 1-0-0 on the season and will face off against the East Central College Falcons on Friday, August 25, at 11 a.m., in Memphis.
