Lady Wolves Play To Draw in Season Opener

DECATUR – The Co-Lin Women's Soccer team took to the road for their season opener on Friday, September 6 to face off against East Central. The Lady Wolves and Lady Warriors played to a 1-1 draw.

"I thought the girls battled well throughout the match," stated head coach Tom Cosgrave. "East Central made it difficult for us to break them down in the middle of the pitch."

The first half saw neither team beat the opposing keeper despite some solid scoring chances. The second half saw the Lady Wolves take advantage of a set piece to get the lead in the match as Emmi Cook (Chesterfield, England) took a corner kick and dropped the ball at the feet of Siobhan Scott (Glasgow, Scotland) who beat the Lady Warriors keeper in the 57th minute. However, the Lady Warriors found the equalizer late in the match and then held off the Lady Wolves to seal the 1-1 tie.

Co-Lin is now 0-0-1 overall and will return to action for their home opener on Friday, September 13 as they host LSU-Alexandria. Kickoff on the pitch between the Generals and the Wolves is set for 2 p.m., at Stone Stadium in Wesson.

"We had some nice spells and created quite a few chances, but I felt like we lacked a bit of composure in the final third of the pitch," added Cosgrave. "Despite that there were lots of positives from this match to take forward as we get ready for conference play."
