Lady Wolves Drop Home Opener Against Generals

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Soccer team hosted LSU-Alexandria for their home opener on Friday, September 13. The Lady Wolves dropped the contest to the Generals, 4-2.

"We started the match really well," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "Our tempo and link up play was very good and we created a lot of chances against a very good LSUA squad which was promising to see."

The Lady Wolves got on the board first early in the match as Madeline Logan (Brandon) beat the Generals keeper from near the top of the box with an assist from Kristina Seymour (Madison) in the second minute. However, the Generals responded quickly tying the game at 1-1 in the tenth minute.

The Lady Wolves then earned their second lead of the game as Nimue Cutrer (St. Martin) found the back of the net with an assist from Unity Cutrer (St. Martin) to make the score, 2-1, in 15th minute. Once again though the Generals were able to find the equalizing goal tying the game at 2-2 in the 17th minute and then took the lead, 3-2, with a penalty kick goal in the 35th minute. That score held as the horn sounded for halftime.

The Generals then added their final goal in the 50th minute of the match to make the score 4-2. Despite some scoring chances late in the second half, the Lady Wolves were not able to find another goal as the Generals sealed the 4-2 win.

Maelee Thibodeaux (Brookhaven) got the start in goal for the Lady Wolves and saved nine of 13 shots on goal faced in the match.

"We had a few injuries sustained in practice leading up to this match and that forced us to make some swaps for our squad," added Cosgrave. "Despite those setbacks, I am overall very happy with the team's performance even though the result didn't go our way."

Co-Lin is now 0-1-1 overall and will open conference play on the road against East Mississippi on Tuesday, September 17. The action on the pitch between the Lady Wolves and the Lady Lions is set to kick off at 5 p.m., at Sullivan-Windham Field in Scooba.
