Lady Wolves Blank Lady Lions in Conference Opening Win

SCOOBA – The Co-Lin Women's Soccer team took to the road to face off against the East Mississippi to open MACCC play on Tuesday, September 17. The Lady Wolves earned their first clean sheet of the season in a 2-0 win over the Lady Lions.

"This was a tough match against a very resilient East Mississippi team," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "They were very organized and tough to break down for the entire match."

The Lady Wolves got on the board late in the first half as Kristina Seymour (Madison) took advantage of a mistake by the Lady Lions defense and then beat the keeper in the 38th minute. The 1-0 lead held as the horn sounded for halftime.

The second goal of the match came early in the second half as Nimue Cutrer (St. Martin) beat the Lady Lions defender and crossed the ball to Alisa Johnson (Leakesville) who then chipped the ball past the keeper to extend the lead to 2-0 in the 60th minute. The Lady Wolves continued to look to extend the lead while holding off the Lady Lions and secured the 2-0 victory.

Maelee Thibodeaux (Brookhaven) earned her first clean sheet of the season saving all three shots on goal faced throughout the match.

"We weren't our best in the final third of the pitch in this match, but it was still nice to come away with a clean sheet and three points for the win," added Cosgrave. "We had a couple of players out injured during this match, so it was nice to see some of our other players step up and perform the way they did."

Co-Lin improves to 1-1-1 overall and will return to action on the road against Pearl River on Friday, September 20. The action on the pitch between the Lady Wolves and the No. 11 Lady Wildcats kicks off at 5 p.m., at the PRCC Soccer Complex in Poplarville.
