Lady Wolves Play to a Draw with Bulldogs
WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Soccer team returned to action with their first of five straight home matches hosting Mississippi Gulf Coast in MACCC play on Tuesday, September 24. The Lady Wolves and No. 20 Bulldogs finished in a 1-1 tie.
"The girls responded really well after the second half performance against Pearl River on Friday," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "They battled hard and stayed disciplined in the defensive shape."
The Bulldogs got on the board first with a goal in the 14th minute making the score, 1-0. The Lady Wolves looked for an equalizer in the first half but could not find the back of the net as the Bulldogs held the 1-0 lead at halftime.
The Lady Wolves looked to tie the game early in the second half with a penalty kick, but the Bulldogs were able to save the attempt and maintain their 1-0 lead. However, the Lady Wolves would not be denied the equalizing goal as Nimue Cutrer (St. Martin) chipped a ball over the Bulldogs keeper with an assist by Emmi Cook (Chesterfield, England) making the score, 1-1, in the 63rd minute. Both teams then looked to take the lead but neither could find the back of the net as both teams played solid defense while the goalkeepers stuffed shot attempts to bring the game to a 1-1 tie.
Lady Wolves goalkeeper Olivia Conway (Huddersfield, England) saved seven of eight shots on goal faced throughout the match.
"I was very proud of the resilience and grit that the team showed throughout this match," added Cosgrave.
Co-Lin is now 1-2-2 overall, 1-1-1 in MACCC play, and will return to action hosting Itawamba on Friday, September 27. Action on the pitch between the Lady Indians and the Lady Wolves is set to kick off at 1 p.m., at Stone Stadium in Wesson.
