WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Soccer team resumed MACCC play hosting Itawamba on Friday, September 27. The Lady Wolves and Lady Indians played to a scoreless draw.
"This was a tough defensive battle in some blustery conditions with the wind," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "Both teams were really resilient in the conditions."
The first half saw the Lady Indians dominate possession of the ball against the Lady Wolves allowing the Lady Wolves just two shots on goal. The second half was then reverse of the first half as the Lady Wolves dominated possession and found four scoring opportunities registering four shots on goal, but none found the back of the net to take a lead. The Lady Wolves played solid defense throughout the match limiting the shots on goal by the Lady Indians to six with the majority coming in the first half. Freshman goalkeeper Olivia Conway saved all six shots on goal faced throughout the match.
"The first half we were a little too defensive, so we opened in the second half," added Cosgrave. "That change caused more problems for them, but we just didn't have enough in the final third going forward to win the game. I am happy with the point in the end against a good team, but would have liked three points for our girls after that one"
Co-Lin is now 1-2-3 overall, 1-1-2 in MACCC play, and will return to action hosting Jones on Friday, October 4. Kickoff between the No. 6 Bobcats and the Lady Wolves is set for 1 p.m., on the pitch at Stone Stadium in Wesson.
