MERIDIAN – The Co-Lin Women's Soccer team returned to conference action with a road match against Meridian on Tuesday, October 22. The Lady Wolves and Lady Eagles finished the match in a 2-2 tie.
"This match was a tough and physical battle against Meridian as it always is," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "We started off poorly, but I was very pleased with how the girls responded and got the match back to 1-1."
The Lady Eagles took advantage of a defensive miscue by the Lady Wolves and got on the board first with a goal in the tenth minute to take an early 1-0 lead. However, the lead was short-lived as the Lady Wolves scored in the very next minute as Emmi Cook (Chesterfield, England) blasted the ball past the Lady Eagles keeper with an assist from Siobhan Scott (Glasgow, Scotland) on an indirect free kick tying the game at 1-1.
The Lady Eagles then retook the lead on an own goal by the Lady Wolves in the 44th minute. The 2-1 lead held for the Lady Eagles as the first half ended. However, the Lady Wolves got on the board again in the 60th minute as Cook got a brace with her second goal of the match, this time ripping a kick from the top of the penalty box and beating the Lady Eagles keeper towards the near post to tie the game at 2-2. The Lady Wolves continued to find scoring opportunities throughout the remainder of the second half but could not take a lead as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
"I'm proud of the effort and the resilience the girls showed throughout this match, and I'm looking forward to finishing the regular season strong in our next two matches," added Cosgrave.
Co-Lin is now 3-4-4 overall, 3-3-3 in conference play, and will return to action against Northwest on Friday, October 25. The action between the Lady Wolves and the No. 1 Lady Rangers kicks off at 5 p.m., at Ranger Soccer Complex in Senatobia.
