RIDGELAND – The Co-Lin Women's Soccer team earned a berth in the NJCAA Gulf South District Playoffs and took to the road for a quarterfinal matchup against Holmes on Saturday, November 2. The No. 5 Lady Bulldogs beat the Lady Wolves, 3-0.
"I was proud of the girls for their resilience and work rate," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "They battled hard all game against a tough Holmes team. They made it difficult a possible for Holmes, but unfortunately, we couldn't create anything going forward to get us on the scoreboard. They are a tough team to play against and I thought that we gave them our best effort."
The Lady Wolves played stout defense against the Lady Bulldogs for the majority of the first half allowing just two shots on goal. However, one of those shots found the back of the net to give the Lady Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute. That lead held throughout the remainder of the half.
The Lady Bulldogs then added goals in the 55th and 79th minutes while holding off multiple shot on goal attempts by the Lady Wolves to seal the 3-0 win.
Co-Lin finishes the season 4-6-4 overall, 4-4-3 in MACCC play.
"The girls have been excellent all year. We have had a lot of injuries this season, but the whole squad stepped up and battled every game," added Cosgrave. "We had 22 freshmen coming into the season, so we were a very young team. A lot of those freshmen got plenty of playing time this season and I'm excited to see them develop over the off season to get ready for next year. We have some quality signings coming in that will make our team even stronger for next year."
