Daza and Manicea No. 19 in the nation

TEMPLE, Ariz. - The 2017 fall Oracle/ITA national rankings has been released and the doubles team of Ximena Daza and Carmen Manicea are the No. 19 team in the nation.  This is the highest ranking by a Co-Lin women's doubles team in the past decade.  In Region 3 rankings, they are the No. 6 team.

Ximena, a sophomore from Bogota, Colombia, is also ranked No. 24 in the nation in singles.  She was an ITA Region singles finalist this fall dropping the championship match in a third set marathon.  Ximena is the No. 7 ranked singles player in Region 3.  Last year, Ximena was a finalist at No. 1 singles in the 2017 MACJC State Tournament.

Carmen, a freshman from Romania who moved to Spain, is currently unranked nationally but comes in No. 19 ranked single player in Region 3.  The other players also ranked in Region 3 include Katy Clark as the No. 25 ranked player in singles and paired with her sister Kara, they are the No. 15 ranked doubles team.

"This is a big step for the women's program for this many players to receive regional and national recognition.  I am very pleased with their progress in the fall and look forward to how we'll finish in the spring." said head coach Brenda Smith. The spring season begins Feb. 15 against Jones County Junior College. The team's goal is to return to the NJCAA National Tournament in Waco, Texas.
