Lady Wolves upend No. 23 Meridian
MERIDIAN – Freshman Katy Clarke won a third set tiebreaker to give the No. 25 Co-Lin Lady Wolves a 5-4 win over the No. 23 Meridian Community College Lady Eagles yesterday. Clark defeated Rachel Sollie 5-7, 6-4, 10-8 give Co-Lin the win. The Lady Wolves (5-2) host Jones County on Friday beginning at 11 a.m. The match was originally scheduled for Thursday, but was postponed due to inclement weather.
"It was a huge win," said Co-Lin tennis coach Brenda Smith. "Katy (Clark) won a third set tiebreaker 10-8 to secure the win. This hotly contested team match saw three third set tiebreakers with us winning two as Ashlyn Locke rebounded from losing the first set 6-1 to win the second and the tiebreaker 10-6. The goal of any team is to improve and develop throughout the season and this team continues down that path."
In doubles action, the No. 1 doubles team of Ximena Daza and Carmen Manicea defeated Julia McCarty and Amanda Lowery 8-1 and Katy and Kara Clark took care of Kennedy Rodriguez-Rachel Sollie 8-5 at No. 2.
The Lady Wolves won three of six singles matches. Daza defeated McCarty 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1, Katy Clark took care of Wolfe 5-7, 6-4, 10-8 at No. 3, and Locke defeated Mitchell 1-6, 6-4, 10-7.
