
Lady Wolves suffer first loss of the season to Meridian
MERIDIAN, Miss. – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves dropped the first match of the year yesterday to the Meridian Eagles on the road. The loss drops the Lady Wolves to 9-1 overall and moves Meridian to 7-2. Co-Lin is back on the court this Saturday, March 23 as the Lady Wolves take on Jones College in Ellisville.
Co-Lin dropped a pair of matches in doubles play as Meridian's Elisiva Latu and Zoe Freke defeated Paula Coronado and Carmen Manicea 9-7 at No. 1. The Clark twins, Kara Clark and Katy Clark, fell at No. 2 to Kennedy Rodriguez and Rachel VanHorn 8-3, while Madison Shows and McKenzie Shows picked the lone doubles victory at No. 3 over Amber Wascomb and Sophia Calderon, 8-1.
In singles action, Coronado split with Rodriguez, 3-6, 7-6, before winning the tiebreaker 10-3. Freke defeated Manicea 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, while Katy Clark picked up a hard-fought win over Latu, 6-0, 3-6, 11-9. VanHorn defeated Kara Clark at No. 4 5-7, 6-2, 10-8, while Wascomb outlasted Ashlyn Locke 5-7, 6-1, 10-8. Calderon defeated Faith Bergeron at No. 6 singles to round out the day, 6-4, 6-3.
