Lady Wolves set to defend MACJC State Title

WESSON, Miss. - The 2020 Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves are looking to defend the 2019 MACJC/NJCAA Region XXIII Championship this year. The team has several new faces as well as a new coach in Dana Hale.

"I am very excited for this season," said Hale. "We had a great fall season and everyone is ready to take the court for the regular season."

The women's roster has three defending state champions returning for their sophomore campaigns.

"Having returners like this sets the tone for our team," said Hale. "These girls know what it takes to get there and will lead our incoming freshmen."

Paula Coronado, who won the doubles state title a year ago, leads the Lady Wolves. The Bogota, Colombia native utilizes her big serve and is strong in every aspect of the game.

Madison Shows returns for her sophomore season after a stellar freshman season. Shows, a Simpson Academy graduate, is a leader on and off the court for the Lady Wolves and shows great patience as she picks her shots nicely.

Mckenzie Shows, Madison's twin sister, is back for another year with the Lady Wolves. McKenzie, also from Mendenahall, is a strong net player that is very aggressive. She is a powerhouse style player that will go for winners.

New to the roster are three freshmen that look to make an immediate impact on the lineup.

Susana Patino joins the Lady Wolves as a freshman, also from Bogota, Colombia. Patino is an aggressive net player that is known as a coach on the court. Much like Coronado, she is a solid player in every facet of the game.

Gracie Phillips is a Copiah Academy graduate, that is a great teammate and a leader on the team. Phillips has shown tremendous improvement throughout the fall season and looks to be a solid player in the Lady Wolves roster.

Britany Barnett is the final freshman on the roster. Barnett, a Brookhaven native, has improved in her singles play through the fall and will be exciting to watch.

"This team is good enough to reach and win the state tournament again," said Hale. "We have set the bar and we want to get back to that level and compete in the regional tournament.

"We are also very excited about our new tennis court complex that is in the works," said Hale. "We are thankful to the board of trustees, our president, and other administration on the funding and hard work. Overall, there is a lot to be excited about with our tennis program at Co-Lin."
