Lady Wolves roll by Meridian, fall to Gulf Coast

WESSON, Miss. - The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves went 1-1 over the past three days as the team defeated Meridian Community College, 6-3, and fell to Mississippi Gulf Coast, 4-5. The results move the Lady Wolves to 6-2 on the year. 

Against the Lady Eagles of Meridian, Co-Lin went 3-0 in doubles action as Paula Coronado and Susana Patino played at No. 1. The duo snuck by the Lady Eagles, 8-6. Sisters Madison Shows and Mckenzie Shows paired up in the No. 2 slot and cruised to victory, 8-1. Britany Barnett and Maddalynn Boyte played at No. 3 in another close match but escaped with an 8-6 win. 

In singles action versus Meridian, Coronado took down Zoe Freke in a tight, 7-5, 7-5 match at No. 1, while Patino continued her dominating play at No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Madison Shows lost a tough match at No. 3, 6-2, 6-0, but her sister picked her up at No. 4 with a 6-3, 7-5 win. Barnett fell at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0, while Gracie Phillips laced up at No. 6 and lost, 6-3, 6-1. 

In the matchup with Gulf Coast, Co-Lin picked up two wins in doubles with Coronado and Patino winning at No. 1, 8-2, and the Shows sisters winning, 8-5. Barnett and Boyte played No. 3 and fell 8-2. 

On the singles' courts, Coronado suffered a tough loss at No. 1, 6-4, 7-6, while Patino played her toughest match yet at No. 2. The freshman escaped with a win, 6-6, 4-6, 1-0. Madison Shows picked up a big win at No. 3 singles over Gulf Coast's Anna Stringer, 6-4, 7-5, but the win proved Co-Lin's last team point of the night. Mckenzie Shows fell, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 4, while Boyte lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Phillips rounded out the action at No. 6 and lost a hard-fought match, 6-4, 6-3. 

Co-Lin is back in action this Friday, March 6, as the Lady Wolves face the Lady Warriors of East Central Community College in Wesson at 2 p.m.
