Coronado tabbed ITA Region III Player of the Year

TEMPE, Ariz. - Copiah-Lincoln Community College sophomore tennis player Paula Coronado earned high honors during the offseason as she was named ITA Region III Player of the Year among Junior/Community Colleges. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) is an organization of tennis coaches and players at the collegiate level with memberships that include NCAA Divisions I, II, III, and NAIA and Junior/Community College schools.

Coronado, a Bogota, Columbia native, was stellar for Co-Lin during her two seasons as she helped the Lady Wolves capture a team MACJC State Championship and NJCAA Region XXIII title as a freshman while winning No. 1 doubles title.

The powerful right-hander kept that momentum going into the brief 2020 season as she played strong singles, and was hoping to defend the No. 1 doubles championship with fellow Columbian, Susana Patino. The duo was undefeated at the time of the season cancelation.

"Paula had two very successful seasons both in singles and doubles at Co-Lin," said Co-Lin head tennis coach Dana Hale. "She has a very solid serve and hits fundamentally sound groundstrokes and is just a strong player all around."

Coronado has signed with Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn. to continue her academic and tennis career.
