Hinds edges by Lady Wolves 5-4

The Hinds Lady Eagles squeaked by Co-Lin Lady Wolves 5-4 in recent tennis action. Co-Lin hosts Itawamba Community College on Tuesday, Feb. 2 with matches beginning at 1 p.m.

Co-Lin picked up a wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The team of Susana Patino/Madison Shows defeated Hinds' Itzel Lara Gonzales/Elizabeth Wooten 8-4 and Co-Lin's Britany Barnett/Gracee Warren took an 8-6 win over the team of Ally Massey/Anesha Smith. The Lady Eagles picked up a win at No. 2 as the team of Emi Smith/Morgan Ross defeated Co-Lin's Morgan Brister/Gracie Phillips 8-3.

In singles action, Co-Lin picked up two wins as No. 1 Susana Patino defeated Itzel Gonzales 6-2, 6-3 and No. 6 Gracee Warren beat Hinds' Nyesha Nealon 6-0, 6-2. Emi Smith defeated Co-Lin's Madison Shows 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 and Elizabeth Wooten took a three-set win over Co-Lin's Morgyn Brister 6-0, 3-6, 0-1 at No. 3. Morgan Ross blanked Co-Lin's Gracie Phillips 6-0, 6-0 and in another three-set match, Myesha Nealon defeated Britany Barnett 3-6, 6-6 (7-5), 0-1.

"I am very proud of our women's team," said Co-Lin head coach Dana Hale. "Despite the outcome, the women had several intense matches and gave it 100 percent."
