Frierson named CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American

AUSTIN, Texas - Trey Frierson, a sophomore from Canton, Miss., has been tabbed as a member of the 10-person Academic All-America Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), which is a 3,100+ member national organization comprised of the sports public relations, media relations and communications/information professionals throughout all levels of collegiate athletics in the United States and Canada. Co-Lin falls in the college division, which includes all two-year institutions, Canadian institutions, and any United States four-year institutions that are not affiliated with the NCAA or NAIA.

Due to the shortened seasons as a result of COVID-19, the selection process was based on the nominee's career stats. Frierson, a Madison St. Joe High School product, was stellar for the Wolves during his time at Co-Lin. As a freshman, despite battling through injuries, the center fielder led MACJC in batting average with a .421 through 107 at-bats. He also drove in 12 runs and drew 20 walks to push his on-base percentage to .534. In 2020, Frierson posted 11 hits in 38 at-bats with two RBIs through 13 games.

Along with being a key member and leader on the team, to receive CoSIDA Academic All-American honors student-athletes must be exemplary in the classroom. Frierson graduated from Co-Lin in the spring and posted a 4.00 GPA. He plans to attend Union University in Jackson, Tenn. to continue his academic and baseball career while pursuing a degree in criminal justice.
