Biggs’ grand slam powers Co-Lin past Holmes

GOODMAN – Tom Biggs' grand slam in the top of the seventh inning powered the Co-Lin Wolves to a 17-15 win over the Holmes Community College Bulldogs in game one of a doubleheader. Jordan Spinks struck out 11 batters as the Wolves took game two 4-3.

GAME 1

Co-Lin used a nine run seventh inning to earn a 17-15 win in game one. The Bulldogs held a 7-4 lead going into the top of the seventh. With two outs Noah Freeman (Mendenhall/Simpson Academy) reached on an error by the shortstop that allowed Peyton Parker (West Monroe, LA/West Ouachita High School) and Marquez Hudson (Monticello/Lawrence County High School) score. Ben White (Natchez/Cathedral High School) singled to left that plated Freeman and Braydon Muse (Florence/Florence High School) as the Wolves took an 8-7 lead. Will-Lawson Harkins (Carthage/Leake Academy) drew a walk to load. Parker was hit by a pitch to allow Cade Lowery (Wesson/Wesson Attendance Center) to cross the plate with Co-Lin's ninth run. Biggs (Columbia, LA/West Monroe High School) came to the plate and hit a grand slam over the center field wall to give the Wolves a 13-7 lead.

The Bulldogs added a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to close the gap 13-9.

The Wolves picked up another run in the top of the eighth as Bizot scored on a Muse ground out. But Holmes would get a home run from Abbott Hankins in the bottom half of the inning to close the gap to 14-10.

In the top of the ninth inning, Biggs' 2-RBI double and Bizot's RBI single would give Co-Lin a 17-10 lead.

The Bulldogs wouldn't fold as they rallied for five runs in the bottom half of the ninth. Hankins 2-RBI single and back-to-back home runs by Alex Frillman and Darian Duhon would close the gap to 17-15. Co-Lin reliever Hunter Reinike (Terry/Copiah Academy) would come in the game to strike out Cole Drake to end the game.

Tucker Jones (Pearl/Pearl High School) would earn the win for the Wolves. He gave up three runs on five hits and struck out five in four innings. Starter Caleb Rutledge (Calhoun, LA/West Ouachita High School) allowed seven runs on seven hits, struck out five and walked two in 3.1 innings. Also seeing action was Sevante Quinn (Brookhaven/Brookhaven High School). He gave up four runs on four hits and struck out four.

At the plate for Co-Lin, Biggs was 4-for-5 with a grand slam, double and two singles for 7 RBIs. Bizot doubled and singled and had one RBI. White had a pair of singles for two RBIs. Hudson and Harkins doubled. Parker had a home run. Adding support with a single apiece were Freeman and Muse.

GAME 2

Hunter Estes' RBI single to left field in the top of the fifth inning broke the 3-3 tie and gave the Wolves the 4-3 win.

Co-Lin took the early 3-1 lead after two innings. In the top of the first Harkins and Parker drew walks and Biggs singled to load the bases. A balk by the Bulldog starter Hayden Bosarge led to the Wolves first run.

In the top of the second, Harkins doubled to score White who singled. Parker singled to score Harkins giving Co-Lin a 3-0 lead.

Holmes scored in the bottom of the second inning on a Cole Drake solo home run.

The Bulldogs tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on a Co-Lin error and a passed ball.

Sprinks threw the complete game allowing one earned run on four hits, striking out 11 and walking two.

At the plate for Co-Lin, Estes (Purvis/Lamar Christian) led the way with a pair of singles. Harkins doubled. Adding support with a single apiece were Parker, Biggs, Freeman, Muse and White.
