Co-Lin Wolves to face Meridian in the NJCAA Region 23 playoffs

WESSON – The Co-Lin Wolves are looking forward to this weekend's NJCAA Region 23 best-of-three baseball playoffs against the No. 10 Meridian Eagles. The first game is Friday at 7 p.m. at Scaggs Field with game two on Saturday at 2 p.m. Game three, if necessary, will take place Saturday at 7 p.m. The games will be streamed live at www.mcceagles.live

"We are looking forward to a challenge series with MCC," said Co-Lin head coach Clay Smith. "They are a good team, well coached and have a nice facility to play. It will be a fun weekend."

The two teams met twice in the regular season with Meridian taking three out of four games.

Regular season champion Pearl River is the No. 1 seed and gets a first round bye. Other first round match ups include

• (8) Gulf Coast travels to (3) Itawamba

• (7) seed Northwest travels to (4) East Central

• (6) seed Jones travels to (5) Hinds

"We go into every season with a goal of reaching post season and giving ourselves a chance to win a National Championship," said Smith. "We've had an up and down season, but in the end; we did enough to get in. So now it's a fresh start."

LEADERS | As a team, the Wolves batting .277 with a slugging percentage of .413 and 32 home runs. Tom Biggs (Columbia, LA/West Monroe High School) is leading the team with a .366 batting average and leads the team with 49 hits. Sophomore Marquez Hudson (Monticello/Lawrence County High School) leads the team in 11 home runs and 40 RBIs while batting .291. Kenner Bizot (Wesson/Wesson High School) is having a strong freshman season hitting .323.  

On the mound, sophomore Peyton Parker (West Monroe, LA/West Ouachita High School) has made 13 appearances this season with an ERA of 4.12.

The Eagles have put up some hefty offensive numbers going into the postseason. As a team, they are hitting .352 with 49 home runs and 344 runs scored.  Leading their offense are Banks Tolley and Braden Luke, who both are batting over .400 with close to 50 RBIs a piece.

NEXT UP | The winner of the series will advance to the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament which will be hosted by Pearl River Community College in Poplarville May 17-21.
