Wolves Drop Doubleheader to Kaskaskia

WESSON – The Co-Lin Baseball team played host to Kaskaskia in a non-conference doubleheader on Friday, February 18. The Blue Devils swept the Wolves taking game one, 5-3, and game two, 14-8.

Game One

The Wolves got off to a fast start as they scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning as Kade Parker (Cadeville, La.) hit a one-out single, stole second, advanced to third on an error, and then scored on a double by DJ Walker (Brandon) making the score 1-0. The Wolves increased their lead to 2-0 with another solo run in the bottom of the second inning as Brady Spring (Brookhaven) drew a walk, advanced to second and third on passed balls, and then later scored while Reed Barlow (Florence) stole second after being hit-by-pitch.

The Wolves held their 2-0 lead until the Blue Devils plated four runs in the fourth inning powered by a three-run home run to take a 4-2 lead. The Wolves scored their final run in the bottom of sixth as Tom Biggs (Columbia, La.) drew a lead-off walk, advanced to third on a double by Josh Boone (Foxworth) and then scored on a passed ball to cut the Blue Devils lead down to 4-3. The Blue Devils added one run in the top of the seventh and a three up and three down bottom half by the Wolves secured the 5-3 win for Kaskaskia.

Josh Boone had two hits during the game including one double while Kade Parker, Kenner Bizot, and DJ Walker had one hit each with Walker collecting one RBI.

Kade May (Florence) got the start for the Wolves and picked up the loss falling to 1-1 on the season. Cooper Williams (Madison), Noah Freeman (Mendenhall), Wyatt Hodges (Brookhaven), and Tom Biggs all made relief appearances.

Game Two

Kaskaskia took the lead early as they plated solo runs in the second and third innings to go up 2-0. However, the Wolves would tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Josh Boone and Jordan McKenzie (Franklinton, La.) hit back-to-back two-out singles and then both later scored on a two-RBI double by Kenner Bizot making the score 2-2.

The game remained tied until the Blue Devils used a six-run top of the fifth to take an 8-2 lead over the Wolves as the Wolves responded with a single run in the bottom half of the inning as McKenzie hit a two-out double and then scored on an RBI single by Bizot making the score 8-3.

The Blue Devils added one run in the sixth and five runs in the seventh to increase their lead to 14-8 while the Wolves responded with five runs in the bottom of the seventh. Aaron Coats (Greenville) started the inning hit-by-pitch and advanced to second and third on passed balls. After McKenzie drew a walk, Wade Nichols (Brandon) doubled, scoring Coats while McKenzie and Nichols scored on a two-RBI triple by Harrison Mohead (Madison). Mohead then scored on a single by Tom Biggs who then later scored on a single by Kade Parker. The Wolves rally was then cut off by a game-ending double play giving Kaskaskia the 14-8 lead.

Jordan McKenzie and Kenner Bizot got two hits each during the contest both hitting one double while Bizot also had three RBIs. Josh Boone, Wade Nichols, Harrison Mohead, Tom Biggs, and Kade Parker all had one hit each with Biggs, Parker, and Nichols getting one RBI while Mohead had two RBIs.

Conner Wilson (Osyka) got the start for the Wolves and picked up the loss falling to 0-1 on the season while Nate Anderson (Poplarville), Tedrick Page (Taylorsville), Hunter Rhymes (Lucedale), Lance Elsen (Madison), Will Whittington (Hattiesburg), Andrew Smith (Morton), and Jordan McKenzie all made relief appearances.

Co-Lin is now 3-5 overall and the Wolves will return to action with a road doubleheader against Delgado on Monday, February 21. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
