Wolves Split Doubleheader Against Delgado

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Co-Lin Baseball team returned to action this week with a road doubleheader against Delgado on Monday, February 21. The Wolves and Dolphins split the doubleheader as the Wolves took game one, 6-2, while the Dolphins took game two, 4-0.

Game One

The Wolves broke a scoreless tie in the top of the second inning with a pair of runs as DJ Walker (Brandon) hit a lead-off single and then Tom Biggs (Columbia, La.) took one swing of the bat and smashed a two-run home run to left field to give the Wolves a 2-0 lead.

The big inning for the Wolves came in the top of the third as they plated three runs as Josh Boone (Foxworth) hit a lead-off single but was forced out on a fielder's choice by Gavin Brogden (Brookhaven). Kenner Bizot (Wesson) then singled while Walker drew a walk to load the bases. Brogden then scored as Biggs reached on a fielder's choice while Bizot and Walker later scored on a double by Kade Parker (Cadeville, La.) making the score 5-0.

The Dolphins then cut the lead down to 5-2 with one run scored in the bottom of the third and fourth innings while the Wolves added a solo run in the top of the seventh. Biggs hit a lead-off then advanced to third on a single by Noah Freeman (Mendenhall) and later scored as Grant Allen (Puckett) drew a bases-loaded walk. A three-up-and-three-down bottom of the seventh sealed the 6-2 win for the Wolves.

Tom Biggs was the only member of the Wolves with a multi-hit game as he went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBIs. Josh Boone, Gavin Brogden, Kenner Bizot, DJ Walker, Noah Freeman, and Kade Parker got one hit each with Parker collecting two RBIs and one double.

Jacob Spinks (Jonesville, La) got the start on the mound for the Wolves and picked up the win improving to 1-1. Spinks pitched five innings allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits with three strikeouts, and seven walks. Tanner Watts (Brookhaven) pitched two innings of scoreless relief with one hit and two strikeouts.

Game Two

The second game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when the Dolphins scored three runs to take a 3-0 lead. A solo run in the bottom of the sixth increased the Dolphins lead to 4-0. The Wolves had several run scoring opportunities throughout the game but could not push a run across the plate in the second game sealing the 4-0 win for the Dolphins.

Harrison Mohead (Madison) paced the Wolves offense as he had three of the five hits while Josh Boone and Tom Biggs had one hit each. Kade Parker got the start for the Wolves and picked up the loss moving to 1-1 on the season.

Co-Lin is now 4-6 overall and the Wolves will return to action with a road doubleheader against Baton Rouge on Thursday, February 24. First pitch at Pete Goldsby Field is scheduled for 3 p.m.
