Wolves Drop Series to East Mississippi

SCOOBA – The Co-Lin Baseball team returned to action with a conference play doubleheader on the road against East Mississippi. The Lions swept the Wolves taking game one, 11-3, and game two, 4-1.

Game One

The Wolves jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Josh Boone (Foxworth) hit a lead-off single and then later scored on a groundout by Tom Biggs (Columbia. La.).

The Lions then tied the game at 1-1 with one run in the first and took a 2-1 lead with another solo run in the second inning. The Lions doubled their lead to 4-1 with two runs in the third inning.

The Wolves cut the lead down to 4-2 as Biggs took one swing of the bat and hit his third home run of the season over the right field fence for a lead-off solo home run. The final run for the Wolves came in the seventh inning as Kade Parker (Cadeville, La.) hit a lead-off single and then later scored as Gavin Brogden (Brookhaven) ground into a double play making the score, 4-3.

The Lions then sealed the 11-3 win with seven runs in the bottom half of the inning to take game one of the doubleheader.

Josh Boone was the only member of the Wolves with a multi-hit game as he went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate while Gavin Brogden, Tom Biggs, Brady Spring (Brookhaven), and Kade Parker had one hit each. Biggs also led the Wolves in RBIs with two.

Jordan McKenzie (Franklinton, La.) got the start for the Wolves and fell to 1-2 on the year with the loss. McKenzie pitched three innings allowing four runs on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Cooper Williams (Madison) pitched three innings of relief allowing four runs, all unearned, on two hits with one walk. Conner Wilson (Osyka), Tedrick Page (Taylorsville), and Nate Anderson (Poplarville) also made relief appearances for the Wolves as Wilson allowed one run with one walk, Page allowed two runs on two hits with one walk, and Anderson had one walk.

Game Two

The game was scoreless until the Lions took a 1-0 lead with a solo run in the bottom of the third innings. However, the Wolves tied the game at 1-1 with their only run of the game in the fifth inning as Colton Womack (Liberty) hit a lead-off single, stole second, and then scored on an RBI single by Josh Boone.

The Lions then broke the tie with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-1 lead. The Wolves got two baserunners on in the sixth inning but could not push a run across and then went three-up-and-three-down in the top of the seventh as the Lions secured the 4-1 win and a sweep of the Wolves.

Josh Boone once again led the Wolves offense as he was the only member of the team with a multi-hit game going 3-for-4 at the plate while Gavin Brogden, Kenner Bizot (Wesson), Brady Spring, and Colton Womack had one hit each. Boone also led the Wolves in RBIs for the game with one.

Kade Parker got the start for the Wolves and fell to 1-2 with the loss pitching six innings allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits with nine strikeouts and one walk.

Co-Lin is now 7-14 overall and 2-4 in conference play. The Wolves will return to action with a road conference play doubleheader on Wednesday, March 23. First pitch between the Bears and the Wolves is scheduled for 3 p.m., in Summit.
