Wolves Stumble Against Trojans on the Road

MOORHEAD – The Co-Lin Baseball team return to action with a road conference play doubleheader against Mississippi Delta on Saturday, April 9. The Trojans swept the Wolves taking game one, 10-2, and game two, 3-0.

Game One

The Wolves got out to an early lead in the top of the first scoring two runs as Jordan McKenzie (Franklinton, La.) reached base on an error. Josh Boone (Foxworth) then drew a walk while Kenner Bizot (Wesson) was hit-by-pitch to load the bases with one out. McKenzie then scored as Brady Spring (Brookhaven) reached on a fielder's choice while Boone scored as Harrison Mohead reached base on a fielder's choice making the score 2-0.

The Trojans responded by taking the lead with four runs in the bottom of the first making the score, 4-2. The Wolves then got three hits combined (two singles and one double) over the next two innings but could not cut into the Trojans lead. However, the Trojans doubled their run total with four runs in the bottom of the third increasing their lead to 8-2.

The Wolves then add four baserunners combined in the fourth through eighth innings via one walk, one hit-by-pitch, and two singles but could not find a way to cut into the Trojans lead. The Trojans added one run in the bottom of the fifth to increase the lead to 9-2 and then hit three straight singles in the bottom of the eighth including a walk-off hit to seal the 10-2 win in game one.

Tom Biggs (Columbia, La.), Jordan McKenzie, Brady Spring, Harrison Mohead, and DJ Walker (Brandon) had one hit apiece as the Wolves totaled five hits during the contest including one double for Mohead. Spring and Mohead had one RBI each for the Wolves.

Cooper Williams (Madison) got the start on the mound for the Wolves and fell to 1-1 on the season. Williams pitched 2.2 innings allowing eight runs, six earned, on five hits with one walk. Kade May (Florence) pitched 4.1 innings of relief allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts and four walks while Lance Elsen (Madison) also made a relief appearance allowing one run on three hits.

Game Two

The Trojans jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first scoring one run making the score 1-0. The Trojans then held the Wolves hitless until the top of the fourth when Jordan McKenzie hit a one-out double; however, the Wolves were unable to push across the run to tie the game.

The Trojans then added one run in the fourth and one run in the fifth to increase their lead to 3-0 while holding the Wolves to just three baserunners combined in the fifth through seventh innings via one hit-by-pitch, one error, and one single to secure the 3-0 game two win.

Jordan McKenzie and Brady Spring had one hit each as the Wolves totaled two hits in the game including one double for McKenzie.

Kade Parker (Cadeville, La.) got the start for the Wolves and fell to 4-3 overall. Parker pitched a complete game effort allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

Co-Lin is now 11-22 overall and 6-12 in conference play. The Wolves will return to action with a road conference play doubleheader against East Central on Tuesday, April 12. First pitched between the Wolves and Warriors is scheduled for 3 p.m., at Clark/Gay Baseball Complex in Decatur.
