Wolves Stumble At Home Against Tigers

WESSON – The Co-Lin Baseball team returned to action hosting Northeast Mississippi in a conference play doubleheader on Friday, April 15. The Tigers swept the Wolves taking game one, 15-2, and game two, 2-0.

Game One

The Tigers opened the game scoring two runs in the first and nine runs in the third while allowing just one baserunner for the Wolves during the first three innings to lead, 11-0, heading to the fourth inning.

The Wolves two runs came in the fourth bottom of the fourth as Josh Boone (Foxworth) broke up the no-hitter bid with a one out double and then later scored as DJ Walker (Brandon) took one swing of the bat and smashed an 0-1 pitch over the right field fence for a two-out, two-run home run (his third of the season) making the score, 11-2.

The Tigers then added their final four runs of the game in the top of the fifth making the score 15-2. Aaron Coats (Greenville) led off the bottom of the fifth being hit-by-pitch and would also steal second in the inning, but back-to-back strikeouts followed by a fly out ended the inning securing the 15-2 win for the Tigers.

Josh Boone and DJ Walker got the only two hits for the Wolves in the game with Boone's double and Walker's home run in the fourth while Walker had two RBIs to lead the team.

Jacob Spinks (Jonesville, La.) got the start for the Wolves and fell to 1-3 on the season pitching 2.2 innings allowing six runs, three earned, on six hits with three walks. Kade May (Florence) pitched 0.1 innings of relief allowing five runs on four hits with one strikeout and two walks. Hunter Rhymes (Lucedale) pitched 1.2 innings of relief allowing four runs, three earned, on two hits with one strikeout and two walks while Lance Elsen (Madison) pitched 0.1 innings of relief with one strikeout and one walk.

Game Two

The second game of the doubleheader was a pitcher's duel between the two starters as both Kade Parker (Cadeville, La.) for the Wolves and Colby Holcombe for the Tigers pitched complete game efforts for their teams.

The only scoring for the game came in the top of the third as the Tigers hit a two-run home run to take the lead and that would be enough for Holcombe to secure the win for his team allowing just two hits, both singles, and the first hit for the Wolves came in the fourth inning. Holcombe also recorded 15 strikeouts, one walk, and two hit-by-pitch in his seven innings of work.

Josh Boone and DJ Walker once again got one hit each as the only two hits for the Wolves in the game.

Kade Parker fell to 4-4 on the season pitching all seven innings allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

Co-Lin is now 11-26 overall and 6-16 in MACCC play. The Wolves return to action with their final home game of the regular season hosting Jones on Wednesday, April 20. First pitch between the Wolves and the Bobcats will be at 3 p.m., at Sullivan Field as the Wolves will also celebrate Sophomore Day during the games.
