Wolves Drop Pair of Road Games

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Co-Lin Baseball team hit the road for a doubleheader on the campus of Delgado Community College on Sunday, February 12. The Wolves lost both games falling to Pensacola State, 3-2, and Delgado, 7-1.

GAME ONE

The Pirates took an early lead as they scored solo runs in back-to-back innings in the first and second to hold a 2-0 lead over the Wolves.

The Wolves cut the lead down to one with a solo run in the top of the third as Braydon Evans (Florence) reached base on an error, advanced to second on a single by Hayden Babineaux (Church Point, La.), and then scored on a single by Tyler Wolfe (Covington, La.) making the score 2-1. However, the Pirates regained their two-run lead with their final run of the game in the bottom half of the inning making the score 3-1.

The final run for the Wolves came in the top of the fourth as Christian Cameron (Brandon) took one swing of the bat and smashed a solo home run over the left field fence to cut the lead down once again to one run at 3-2.

The Pirates then allowed the Wolves just two baserunners via walks over their final 13 batters of the game to secure the 3-2 win.

The Wolves had three hits as a team as Tyler Wolfe, Christian Cameron, and Hayden Babineaux had one hit each while Wolfe and Cameron had one RBI each.

Wyatt Hodges (Brookhaven) got the start and picked up the loss moving to 0-2 on the season. Hodges pitched four innings allowing three runs, all earned, on five hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Coby Gollot (Ocean Springs) pitched two innings of scoreless relief with one hit and three strikeouts.

GAME TWO

The second game of the day got off to a different start as they scored what would be their only run of the game in the top of the first. Tyler Wolfe hit a leadoff single, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout by Brentley Berry (Magee) and then scored on an RBI groundout by Josh Boone (Foxworth) to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead.

The Dolphins responded in the bottom half of the inning by batting around their lineup and scoring five runs to take a 5-1 lead over the Wolves.

The Dolphins added runs in the second and fifth innings while holding the Wolves to two hits over the final six innings of play to secure the 7-1 win.

The Wolves totaled three hits as a team as Luke Knight (Terry) went 2-for-3 at the plate and Tyler Wolfe had one hit. Josh Boone had one RBI for the Wolves.

Hunter Rhymes (Lucedale) got the start for the Wolves and picked up the loss moving to 0-1. Rhymes pitched one inning allowing five runs, all earned, on six hits with one walk. Connor Pittman (Waynesboro) pitched four innings of relief allowing two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk while Jayden Duncan (Foxworth) pitched one inning of scoreless relief with one hit and one strikeout.

Co-Lin is now 2-4 overall and will return to action with a road game against Jones on Tuesday, February 14. First pitch between the Wolves and the Bobcats is scheduled for 4 p.m., at Community Bank Park in Ellisville.
