The Wolves split the day as they dropped their first game of the day against the No. 15 Eagles of Hinds, 8-0, and then bounced back for a come-from-behind upset win over the No. 9 Eagles of Meridian.

GAME ONE

Jayden Duncan (Foxworth) pitched one inning of relief allowing three runs, one earned, on three hits with one strikeout while Craig Bass (Brookhaven) pitched one inning of scoreless relief with one strikeout.

GAME TWO

The second game of the day for the Wolves saw a similar start as the Eagles of Meridian took an early lead with a single run in the bottom of the second to make the score 1-0.

However, the Wolves responded by taking the lead with three runs in the top of the third as Josh Boone hit a one-out single to get the offense started. Harrison Mohead and Ryland Hemphill (Florence) drew back-to-back walks to load the bases for the Wolves. Alford Hill (Isola) then delivered a clutch bases-clearing double making the score 3-1 in favor of the Wolves.

The Eagles quickly responded with a three-run bottom half of the inning to regain the lead at 4-3.

The Wolves would not be denied though as they fought back and reclaimed the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. Sam Thomas (Ridgeland) got the scoring started as he took one swing of the bat and crushed an 0-2 pitch over the right field fence for a solo home run to tie the game at 4-4. Hill then reached base on an error and advanced to second on the same play, while Hagan Coumbe (Utica) delivered in a big moment with an RBI single scoring Hill to take a 5-4 lead for the Wolves.

The Wolves then relied on their pitching staff to get them the win as Coby Gollot (Ocean Springs) pitched a scoreless fifth and sixth innings allowing just one walk. Gollot then allowed a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh and was replaced by Connor Pittman (Waynesboro). Pittman forced a double play by the first batter he faced, then gave up a two-out double, but was able to strand the runner with a fly out by the next batter to secure the 5-4 upset win for the Wolves.

The Wolves totaled seven hits as a team as Josh Boone and Alford Hill both went 2-for-4 at the plate while Sam Thomas, Hagan Coumbe, and Luke Knight (Terry) had one hit each. Hill led the Wolves with three RBIs while Thomas and Coumbe had one RBI each.
